Women's Health Services
Winchester
Rehabilitation Center’s goal is to promote the health of women by
providing outpatient therapy services targeted toward females.
Many health problems, while not unique to women, are diagnosed
more in women than in men. There is treatment to help.
An evaluation
includes:
-
a
complete review of medical history and current symptoms
-
a
physical exam of muscle strength and coordination including
an exam of the pelvic floor, if indicated
-
an
examination of lifestyle
- Winchester
Rehabilitation Center’s treatment plans are individualized to meet
the treatment needs of patients. Treatment may include education
on women’s anatomy and normal function, strengthening and
coordination of muscles - including those of the pelvic floor,
home exercise programs, balance and general conditioning.
-
- Continence
- Some women
experience a sudden onset or gradual loss of bladder control due
to childbirth, surgery, menopause or other factors. There are a
number of successful non-surgical treatments available to improve
muscle function and bladder control.
-
- Osteoporosis
- Osteoporosis
is the gradual loss of bone density often accelerated by the onset
of menopause. A physical therapist can develop an exercise program
to help re-build bone density and teach effective ways to protect
the body and avoid injury.
-
- Pelvic Pain
- Many women
experience pain in the pelvic region. This can include pain or
spasm of the vagina, pelvic or perineal region, pain with
intercourse and/or menstruation. Each patient is unique and an
individualized treatment program will be designed following a
thorough evaluation. Successful treatments include postural and
therapeutic exercises, modalities and education.
-
- Pre and Post-Partum Pain
- Many women
experience aches and pains during or after pregnancy, which may
limit physical function. These may include back pain, aggravation
of previous orthopedic problems, tingling or swelling of the
arms/legs and pain after Cesarean surgery. Therapists can provide
instruction in exercise, positioning, supports and modalities to
help relieve discomfort and help women maximize their function.
-
- A
physician’s referral is required for all services. Please bring a
signed referral form to the first appointment. Many insurance
companies will reimburse the cost of this service, so please have
insurance information handy when the appointment is made.
