Surgical Services at
Warren Memorial Hospital
Warren Memorial Hospital Surgical Services Department provides a
variety of same-day surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic and orthopedic
procedures as well as inpatient surgical services. Surgeons
routinely use lasers, small video cameras and other advances in
surgical technology. The department has four operating rooms, a
three-bed post-anesthesia care unit (recovery room), a 10-room
Same-day Surgery unit,
and an endoscopy suite. Most surgical procedures at Warren
Memorial are performed as same-day and patients are able to go home
the same day. The Surgical Services Department is located on the
hospital’s first floor near the main entrance. The Same-Day Surgery

Pre-Admission Teaching
Patients scheduled to have surgery at Warren Memorial Hospital will
also be scheduled to have pre-admission teaching to prepare for
surgery. The physician’s office will notify patients when to come to
the hospital for pre-admission teaching, which is usually scheduled
during the after-noon hours. Pre-admission teaching sessions are
held in the Same-Day Surgery unit. Patients will register at the
main patient registration area for both pre-admission teaching and
scheduled surgery.
Pre-admission teaching requires a minimum of one hour. Patients will
have a blood sample taken and will meet with the anesthesiologist
for an evaluation. Based on that evaluation, patients may need to
have an EKG, chest x-ray or other diagnostic testing. Patients will
receive instructions to prepare for surgery, such as any medications
needed or dietary restrictions. Patients also learn what time to
arrive and what to expect on the day of surgery. Please note that
children are asked to arrive one and a half-hours before surgery is
scheduled.
Inpatient Surgery
Some surgeries such as hip or knee joint replacement, fracture
repair, bowel resection and C-sections require a stay in the
hospital. Pre-admission teaching for patients whose scheduled
surgery will require an inpatient hospital stay is also scheduled to
be done in the Same-Day Surgery Unit.
Patients scheduled for morning admission usually are asked to arrive
at the hospital one and a half hours before the surgery is
scheduled.
