The Wound Care Center

Dedicated to bringing the best in wound care evaluation and treatment to the Northern Shenandoah Valley

The Wound Care Center, housed on the campus of the Winchester Medical Center, is a medically directed outpatient service offering comprehensive wound care, optimal healing and independence for patients with complicated wounds.

Commonly treated wounds include:

  • venous stasis ulcers

  • pressure ulcers

  • diabetic ulcers

  • gangrene

  • traumatic wounds

  • complex or chronic wounds that require intensive medical and/or surgical intervention

Beginning with an evaluation of wound care needs, a variety of diagnostic tests may be used to best determine a plan of treatment. Depending upon the type and location of wounds, treatment therapies may include:

  • wound debridement

  • compression therapy

  • pulsed lavage

  • custom designed foot wear, bedding or wheelchair cushioning

 The Wound Care Center provides:
  • wound assessment
  • education and prevention

  • treatment

  • support and referral

Ongoing communication with the patient’s primary health care provider is an important part of care. The Wound Care Center is committed to sharing timely information and updates as treatment progresses from the first visit through discharge.

Patients are referred through the family physician by calling the Wound Care Center. Self-referrals are also welcomed. Services are covered by most commercial insurance.

When making a referral to the Wound Care Center, please remember to provide the following:

  • patient name, date of birth and phone number

  • current physician order for wound care treatment

  • pre-authorization for treatment (commercial insurance) when the patient’s payor requires this information from the referring physician

  • medical history, recent lab work, and relevant diagnostic test results

To make an appointment or to ask a wound care related question, please contact the Wound Care Center via telephone or email. A member of the wound care team will respond promptly to each inquiry. The staff is committed to bringing the best in wound care evaluation and treatment to the northern Shenandoah Valley.
