Winchester
Medical Center’s 36-bed inpatient pulmonary unit focuses on the
care of acutely ill pulmonary patients. The pulmonary unit
serves patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,
asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, respiratory failure, congestive
heart failure, lung cancer, and other diseases affecting the
optimal respiratory state as well as patients with atrial
fibrillation, cor pulmonale and other select arrhythmias. Prior
to discharge, patients receive comprehensive education to
promote wellness and increase their
ability to perform daily
activities and quality of life.

Pulmonary Special Care Unit
- The
Pulmonary Special Care Unit (PSCU) is a 3-bed unit providing
skilled nursing for patients requiring a higher level of
monitoring and specialized care. Each unit is equipped with an
EKG monitor and ventilator for patients with respiratory
failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, asthma,
bronchitis, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, septic shock
syndrome, and other pulmonary diseases.
Extensive
training and education is offered to patients who are
ventilator dependant or patients with new tracheotomies.
The specialized
physicians affiliated with the Pulmonary Unit at WMC are highly
trained and skilled in treating a range of pulmonary illnesses.
The staff provides the latest in treatments while providing
greater comfort and convenience to all those needing pulmonary
care.
