Neurology
Winchester Medical Center's Neuroscience Center brings together a team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, highly trained staff and advanced technology to provide a comprehensive range of services.  Patients of all ages receive diagnosis and treatment for conditions of the brain, central nervous system and spine.

Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit
The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is a five-bed unit providing skilled nursing care and continuous observation for critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients.
Patients are admitted to NSICU based on their need for intensive nursing care as determined by the physician and severity of illness. Patients with the following diagnosis are often admitted to NSICU: brain and spinal chord trauma, post-operative brain or carotid artery surgery, acute stroke, brain tumor, brain hemorrhage, and seizures. All patients have cardiac monitoring and some may need more invasive monitoring or ventilator support.

Professionals with advanced knowledge in the science of neurology staff the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. Working closely with physicians and ancillary staff, the NSICU staff strives to provide high quality, and courteous care to all patients. Each patient has a registered nurse assigned to his or her care. The nurse may be assigned to one or more patients and may not be constantly at the patient’s bedside. The unit is designed, however, so that all patients are easily observed and monitored from the nurses’ desk. A nurse case manager and social worker are available to assist with specific discharge needs. Upon request, pastoral care is also available.

Neurodiagnostic Sleep Lab

Sleep apnea and nocturnal myoclonus are two of the major sleeping disorders that affect an estimated 20 percent of the American population. The consequences of a sleeping disorder can reach much farther than simply not feeling rested.

Diagnosis
The Neurodiagnostic Sleep Lab performs sleep studies to diagnose these common sleep disorders. Sleep studies are performed at night by technicians who monitor a person while they sleep. Before falling asleep, numerous leads and electrodes are attached to a patient's heal, arms, legs, torso and face. Technologically advanced equipment records every breath, heartbeat, movement and brain activity to determine just what is robbing the patient of restful sleep. The Sleep Lab offers testing sites in Winchester and Woodstock where physicians may be able to treat the problems that cause common sleep disorders.
