Resources

Part of being a major heart and vascular center also means providing additional services to patients and the community. The Heart & Vascular Center has various clinics and resources available to patients and referring physicians.

Heart Failure Clinic - The Heart Failure Clinic is a team of specialized nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals who, together with the physician, can assist patients in the management of heart failure. The purpose of the clinic is to educate patients with heart failure and their families or significant others about the disease process, the purpose of medications, the limitations of certain foods and beverages which aggravate symptoms, and the importance of activity that will improve their ability to live their lives and keep them out of the hospital. Patients with a diagnosis of heart failure must be referred by a primary healthcare provider who will continue to care for them on a routine basis.

Anticoagulation Clinic - Outpatient coumadin/wafarin monitoring and education.

Diabetes Management Program - Because diabetes is a frequent co-morbidity factor in heart patients, the Heart & Vascular Center works closely with the hospitals Diabetes Management Program. Through the program, patients receive education in nutrition, medication, exercise and general care and monitoring through weekly classes. The Valley Health Diabetes Management Program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association.

Living with Heart Disease - A series of classes for patients and families on how the heart works, angina, heart failure, medications, heart healthy eating, stress management and strengthening the heart.

Wellness Services - Provided through Winchester Medical Center, Warren Memorial Hospital and Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, wellness programming such as smoking cessation, weight management, stress management, massage therapy and fitness classes are available to heart patients.

1-877-SAV-A-HRT - A toll-free heart information line for patients and physicians needing additional information on services provided through the Heart & Vascular Center at Winchester Medical Center. Some diagnostic and rehabilitative services of the Heart & Vascular Center are also available through Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal, VA, and Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, VA. For information on services at these locations, call the SAV-A-HRT number.

Stroke - Many of the signs and symptoms for heart attack risk are also symptoms for stroke. The Heart & Vascular Center works closely with the Neurosciences Services at Winchester Medical Center to help ensure continuity and shared resources for both types of patients.
